Spiders and Bats, Oh My!

Halloween is creeping up on us so I thought I'd feature a few items that fit in with that special kid's day (sorry, can't bring myself to call it a holiday, the way some people do!).

The Knuckleheads Bat 2Fer is a great boy (or girl) tee anytime, but it has a special appeal this time of the year. Here it is again:

Another Knuckleheads cool shirt is this one: Spider 2Fer.

And, as I'm posting this, we have two sizes left in this beatiful, beautiful Wonderboy bat shirt.

And of course, if you are looking for black shirts, there's lots of those on the site as well.

Enjoy a safe Halloween!

Rad Plaid and Other Fall Must Haves

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Rad Plaid and Other Fall Must-haves
A TykeThreads.com Boyswear Update

Toronto, Ontario (September 28, 2010) – The top three trends for boyswear this fall/winter are rad plaids, hybrid hoodies, and skinny jeans, according to online boyswear boutique TykeThreads.com.

Rad Plaids: Knuckleheads Inc. hits it out of the park with two of the brightest, most interesting plaids this season: the Backcountry Flannel in eye-pleasing turquoise and its more traditional cousin, the Sunday Best shirt, in autumn colours.

Hot Hybrids: The Jester, Ben Sherman’s hybrid hoodie is a grey fleece hood grafted onto a peppy red plaid lumberjack shirt for a look that says urban casual and “grunge revisited.”

The Skinny on Jeans: One of the season’s must-haves – skinny jeans in black. Nothing says rocker like this one from Appaman. Top with a hoodie (hybrid plaid, perhaps) or a Tee and he’s all set to rock’it all night, or at least look the part.

“Another popular item that we love is the hat. Fedora, cap or beanie these accessories fly off my virtual shelves,” said Grace Sanchez MacCall, Founder of TykeThreads.com.

Shoes. We have Shoes.

The cooling temperatures and occasional threat of rain has forced me to revisit my son's footwear recently. (Like most busy boys, he's been running around barefooted when he's not wearing his sandals the last few weeks.) Yup, sure enough, he's at the top of his size and he's going to need new shoes again.

Lucky for him, TykeThreads just received new shoes from our favourite designers, Morgan and Milo. Corduroy, and suede, oh my! Some beautiful ones here. Check out these and other shoes on our website.

Our Favourite Western Shirts

Now that it's Stampede time in Calgary, we thought it's a perfect time to highlight our favourite Western shirts. And when we say Western shirts, we really mean Wonderboy because who else does it better!

Here's our favourite in long sleeves: the Western Cola in a colour that flatters any skin tone.

and in short sleeves: the Lake Western in a periwinkle blue.

All Wonderboy shirts are made with fine attention to detail: from the handpicked, quality fabrics to the detailed stitching and finishing. Made in the USA. Great selection at www.tykethreads.com.

Canadian and US holidays coming up

The coming week is a good one for celebrations. On the Canadian side, we celebrate Canada Day on July 1. Meanwhile, four days later, we will be wishing our American friends a Happy Fourth of July.

We hope you are spending the day with family and friends and that somewhere in that busy day is an outdoor activity -- a picnic, a barbecue, a day on the beach.

Enjoy the fireworks, everyone. Stay safe!

Mommies With Style Love LittleLife

I'm so happy to hear that Debbie from MommiesWithStyle.com enjoyed the cow backpack from LittleLife. On her recent trip, she said her son carried his own backpack by himself and that he loved wearing the cow hood over his head.

This is the typical response we get from our customers. Anyone who has ever purchased it has commented on:

(a) how proud their kids are carrying their own backpack with their own stuff inside
(b) how adorable the packs are
(c) how great the quality is
(d) and how cute their kids look wearing the pack.

Thank you Mommies With Style!

Happy St. Patty's Day

My husband and I were talking about St. Patty's Day and I reminded him that he should wear green on Wednesday so he doesn't get pinched. He gave me a blank stare. I said, "You know -- you have to wear green on St. Patrick's Day, or others have the right to pinch you." He continued staring. He has never heard of this.

However I came to this knowledge, I would like to stick by it. It's a good idea to wear green anyway. It's a great colour and flattering to all skin tones. Everyone can find a green he or she can look good in, and, well, you have to wear green so you don't get pinched, people!

We have a lot of green shirts and outfits on the site, but I've shortlisted a few of my absolute favourites!

Favourite #1: Wonderboy Birch Beer button shirt

I love this Wonderboy shirt! Wonderboy, of course, makes the most amazing boys' shirts around and they have the bestest, neatest fabric. And, I can tell you that this family-run business is a delight to deal with. They care about their products and the environment, and this is reflected in their corporate philosophy and practices.

Favourite #2: Knuckleheads Greenie Romper

This romper is so adorable. It's cute and it has fine horizontal stripes. Thank you, Knuckleheads, for bringing us this comfortable, smile-inducing, timeless design. For St. Patty's and beyond! And check out this matching cap!

Favourite #3: Glug Chemistry long-sleeved shirt

Now this is a clever t-shirt design. My son has this shirt and it gets noticed wherever he goes. What's not to like? It has a microscopes and beakers and test tubes and other bio-chem visual references. On the comfort and wearability factor, this long-sleeved cotton shirt tops the scales as well. 100 per cent cotton, durable and all-season. Perfect for this time of the year when it's still a little nippy and all through spring and summer when his arms need to be covered from the sun or hungry mosquitos.

~~

So there you have it. My top three favourite green items. Check out our site for other drool-worthy items -- green or not.

Did I mention we've marked down everything green on the site right now? Limited time offer or until quantities last.

Something Red

With Valentine's Day and Chinese New Year falling on the same day, red is, most definitely, THE colour of the month!

Inspired by Earnshaw's who recently uploaded a bunch of red and pink outfits on their Facebook page, I thought I'd highlight a few red items from the TykeThreads store.

I'll start with this House of Mongrel red robot hoodie, a beautiful all-season must-have for any girl or boy. And, it's organic and Made in the USA.

Another favourite of my son's is the Appaman signature monkey football jersey shirt.

Babies need not feel left out. Here's the cutest little Knuckleheads Li'l Duke baby onesie in red with contrast grey on the shoulders. Adorable and on sale now!

And here's a pair of cute, red booties from Rileyroos.

Still from Knuckleheads, here's a great coat to wear now or keep for next fall: the red outdoor jacket is the lumberjack coat by any other name!

From outerwear, we move on to underwear -- errr.... pajamas, at least. This awesome organic PJ set from Kid Brother is soft, comfy and sweet.

Lots of other fun stuff at tykethreads.com so make sure you check it out!

A High Note for TykeThreads

TykeThreads.com made the Sweetmama Best of 2009 List!

This is a source of great pride for us for a couple of awesome reasons:

- 2009 was our launch year
- It means moms really get what we're about!

Sweetmama.ca has been especially supportive of us (gee, I wonder if the editors have boys?!) and we are absolutely delighted and eternally grateful. Special thanks to Nadine Silverthorne for picking our store for her list.

Sweetmama.ca, you rock!
